I made this banana bread a few weeks ago and my husband, and myself said it was some of the best banana bread we’ve had. I wanted to share this recipe with you all.
ingredients
Bread:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 cup of packed dark brown sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter
2 large eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 1/3 cups of mashed overripe bananas (I use about 4 bananas)
Crumble:
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons oats (any type of oat will work)
2 tablespoons of dark brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
4 tablespoons of cold butter, cubed
Pinch of flaky or coarse sea salt
directions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
- Make your brown butter
- Put 1/2 cups of unsalted butter in a sauce pan and melt your butter on medium heat.
- Once it has been fully melted, let it come to a light simmer while stirring occasionally.
- When your butter has reached a golden brown/amber color and you see small bits of browned butter, you’re done.
- Set this aside to cool down while we work on the next step.
- Mix together your dry ingredients in a bowl; flour, baking soda, salt.
- In a separate bowl or stand mixer, mix together your dark brown sugar, brown butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and mashed bananas.
- Once the wet ingredients are incorporated, add in your dry ingredients slowly (about 1 cup at a time).
- (Optional) add in any nuts, chocolate chips, raisins, etc.
- In a greased pan (I use a small loaf pan), pour in your batter. Now, make your brown sugar & oat crumble.

brown sugar & oat crumble
- Mix all the crumble ingredients into a bowl.
- With a pastry cutter or a fork, cut the butter into the dry mixture until there are pea sized crumbles (or a bit chunkier like mine).

- Once done, sprinkle on top of your banana bread.
- Bake for 60 minutes at 350.
- Let it cool for an hour after done baking.
- Enjoy!!!
